Château et donjon

The original fortress was composed of 11 towers, ramparts and a drawbridge over the moat. It is said that the château, and therefore the village, owes its name to a reconciliation treaty that was signed there between Philippe Augustus and Richard the Lionheart. It is understandable that it is named after the fleur-de-lys, which symbolizes the arms of the Kingdom of France, and Saint George, who is the Patron Saint of England. In the 16th century, the Bertrand family built the imposing residence which can be admired today. The château was occupied by a garrison until the Revolution. In the 19th century, the architect A. Dauvergne oversaw a renovation campaign. The fixed bridge, former entrance chatelet, oval keep, residence and garden still remain today.
